Labour market information (LMI)
The labour or job market is a term used to describe the supply and demand of labour. The term ‘skill shortages’ is when employers struggle to find people with the right skills to fill a vacancy – and these can be indicators as to where some of the future jobs will be. The biggest challenge we face is to prepare our students for the most important jobs of the future which may not even exist! Accessing LMI can help make informed decisions.
What is LMI?
LMI to consider include:
- What qualifications and skills do I need?
- What are the different types of jobs I can do in each sector?
- What could I earn now and what could this be in the future?
- What pathways could lead to my chosen careers?
- Where will the jobs be?
- What jobs are available?
- How many jobs are there?
- What is the best way to get to work?
