Thanks to your tremendous support and generosity, our annual Book Fair was a record breaking success:
- 30% more children used their World Book Day £1 discount vouchers when buying books
- orders were up by 77%
- book sales exceeded sales of stationery
- and the magnificent total of £1,873.56 is our highest yet!
This year, Fair takings have raised £1,124 in commission, which will be spent, as usual, on books to stimulate literacy and a love of reading throughout school.
The table below shows how we used last year’s Fair commission:
- Roald Dahl’s Boy – 70
- Diary of a Wimpy Kid – 130
- Hound of the Baskervilles – 130
- Gangsta Granny – 50
- Prizes – 14
- Reward – 6
- Shadowing The North East Book Award – 2
Most was spent on books to support English lessons. Smaller amounts were spent on books to reward, literary challenges such as shadowing the North East Book Award and on book prizes for our summer middle schools’ Literary Quiz. We’ll let you know exactly how this year’s commission was spent…. next year!
Once again, thank you!
Everyone is involved in making our Fairs a success: our customers (of course!) but also our student Fair Makers.
Many thanks go to: Bethany Matthews, Aimee Reid, Kate Wiseman and Ava Da Costa – all in Year 6 – for giving up every break and lunchtime in January to staple over 1,000 letters to Fair fliers to publicise the Fairs at both schools.
Lana Moat in Year 8 for giving up her breaks to sell stationery
Lana Moat and Caitlin Love, also in Year 8, for distributing the orders and helping to tidy up on Friday.
