Wearing a correctly fitting helmet every time your child rides on their scooter or bike helps to protect their face, head, and brain if they fall.
Please talk to your child about the importance of wearing a helmet every time they ride even if they’re going on a short journey and to follow the following rules:
- Make sure the helmet fits well
- Always wear a helmet correctly so it protects as it should: make sure it covers the forehead and doesn’t tip back. Always fasten the straps
- Don’t wear a hat under a helmet
- Take care of the helmet and don’t throw it around. If it’s damaged, it won’t protect the rider as well as it should when they need it
- Get a new helmet if the rider has been involved in a fall whilst on their bike and has hit their head
- Put reflective stickers on the helmet so drivers can see the rider better
Dear Parent / Carer of a Year 4 student
As you will be aware, your Year 4 child is now in their last year of First School and you will be getting ready to think about their transition to Middle School. In order to support your decision making regarding this we would like to invite you and your child for a visit to Newminster Middle School.
As a result of the restrictions in place over the last year we have not been able to have groups of parents / carers coming into school for some time. We feel that we are now able to begin to do this, but still with a number of restrictions in place. We are therefore going to be hosting a Year 4 Parent / Carer information evening as follows:
Abbeyfields First School: Tuesday 5th October 5.30 – 6.30
St Roberts First School: Wednesday 6th October 5.30 – 6.30
Morpeth First School: Thursday 7th October 5.30 – 6.30
There will be a presentation in the hall at 5.30 from myself and members of the senior team, followed by a guided tour of the school. Please be aware that the wider staff body will not be present on the evening and that activities will not be taking place in the classroom in the usual way; you will appreciate that our ongoing priority is to protect our school community and ensure our ability to maintain our operational capacity.
To further support us we kindly ask that the evening is limited to one parent / carer and your Year 4 child attending on the evening and that you arrive no earlier than 5.15.
All applications for Middle School places need to be completed and submitted by 31st October 2021 and the allocation of places will be notified on 1st March 2022. All applications received by the deadline will be treated equitably. Any applications received after this date will be treated as late applications.
Further information about the admissions process can be found by following the link below:

We look forward to welcoming you to Newminster Middle School as outlined above.
