Calling all ex pupils of Morpeth First School!!!
During the Spring Term, the English focus for pupils in Year 8, was the World War 1 play âJourneyâs End,â written by R.C. Sherriff and poetry from the period. In order to broaden the learning experience for our students and take âLearning Outside the Classroom,â we invited the Army Cadets into school for the day.
The focus was to enable pupils to experience the transition from civilian to soldier; understand the importance of team work, responsibility to others, following orders and respecting authority. The day provided an opportunity for all pupils to take part in âCommand Tasks,â âField Craft,â scale a challenging âClimbing Wallâ and listen to a fascinating âWW1 Battlefield Presentation.â
The day proved to be a huge success, taking our students outside their comfort zone, where they were encouraged to embrace new challenges and in the process learn more about themselves too.
We will be visited by one of the UKs top Pro Disc Golfers who has also appeared on Blue Peter trying to break a world record for the most speed putts using a Frisbee! He will be teaching us how to throw and catch a Frisbee as well as teaching us dynamic, fun Frisbee games and challenges to play. We hope to gain an insight into some of the official Disc Sports, such as Ultimate Frisbee and Disc Golf and of course to be wowed by some awesome demonstrations by Chris!
Why not check what it is all about on http://www.catchthespirit.co.uk and find out more about the âway of a Frisbeeâ.
Should you wish to buy a Frisbee after experiencing first-hand the fun that can be had, Chris has agreed to bring the Frisbee he recommends for families.
The Aerobie Superdisc is the main disc used for key stage 2+ and retails at ÂŁ9.50 plus postage in the Flying Disc shop on the website but Chris has kindly offered to will sell them for ÂŁ9 on the day.
For younger children the Aerobie Dogobie is a good choice â ÂŁ7.50 online, just ÂŁ7 on the day.
Collectable mini Frisbees in a variety of colours! These are just ÂŁ1.50 each.
Chris also has a brand new freestyle model called the âX-Discâ just in the from the USA. There are a limited number of these exciting spinners available at ÂŁ12.

Our yearly Cheviot Ceilidh took place on Saturday 27th April 2019, 7.00 pm â 9:30 pm at The King Edward VI School in Morpeth. Students from KEVI, Rothbury, Newminster and Chantry Middle Schools Ceilidh Bands came together to perform various sets for people to dance to lead by a caller,
The students all performed brilliantly and everyone had a fabulous time.
A huge thank you to Heather Harrison for organising this event, KEVI PTA for helping sell tickets and to the tech, sound and lighting team supported by Jonathan Hughes.
Northumberland Community Enterprise Ltd are a Stobhill based charity helping families throughout the North East during hard times. They tackle food poverty, deprivation, help parents to find work and have recently been shortlisted to win a large National Lottery grant.
Grant funding will mean that they can open a community shop in Stobhill offering;
A free School Uniform Bank, Community Food Pantry, Free Haircuts, Recycled Household Paint, a Job Club and Training.
If they are successful in securing enough votes they will be working with local schools and social services who can refer families into their project. This will enable them to purchase and provide recycle bins for schools, organise regular collections and arrange mending and repairing of uniforms if necessary. They will also be collecting food from ASDA twice per week and offering parcels to families during difficult times. Their hairstylist will work two evenings per week providing free school approved haircuts to children and those parents who have secured Job Interviews.
Please can we all support this local charity and vote to bring these services to the area.

Well done to our various teams at the end of a very busy season.
Football
Our U11 girlsâ team finished with a fantastic 100% record having won all of their league games and the Sports Partnership event. They will next be playing in the Summer Games on 27th June, representing our Area against the best in the county.
Our U11 boysâ team also played some exceptional football, with only 1 defeat in the league and also getting to the County Cup semi-final. This is even more remarkable considering most of the team are in Year 5. Good luck next year!
The U11 B-team had some very difficult fixtures playing mainly against school A-teams but again as most were in Year 5 it looks very promising for next year.
The U13 girlsâ team are still in action through into next term and have definitely improved as the season has gone on, playing some impressive football and demonstrating a great attitude.
The U13 boysâ team have also improved hugely as the season progressed finishing with a convincing 4-0 home win against Ponteland and finishing 3rd in the league.
Rugby
The season is still going, and we’d like to say that we have been massively impressed by all our KS3 teams this year. The girls have improved so much from last year’s introduction to contact and the boys finished the term with impressive performances in the County 7s event. The boys will finish the season with another 7s event on 9th May and the girls will finish on the beach!
House rugby – the fantastic attitude and commitment was also demonstrated in the house rugby competition this term. Particular note goes to the quality of the Year 5 and Year 7 teams and the high intensity of the Year 8.
Well done to Howard for winning this event. The overall positions are now:
1st – Dacre; 2nd – Howard; 3rd – Mitford; 4th – Collingwood.
Netball
Year 7 and 8 girls have performed well this season with a 3rd place finish in the league. Miss Simpson has been very impressed with the girlsâ attitude and resilience demonstrated all season.
Year 5 have shown a fantastic commitment to training this year and performed well in a difficult Sports Partnership tournament against teams from Year 6. Many thanks go to the Year 7 girls who turned up each week to help train them.
Sports leaders
Well done to our Sports leaders who were trained and then led a Tri-Golf tournament to our Feeder School pupils. Once again their attitude and leadership skills were of a fantastic quality throughout. Next term they will be doing a tennis event.
Weâd also like to say well done to our Year 8 boysâ basketball team and Year 7/8 girlsâ cricket teams, who took part in Area events this term. Particular note goes to the Year 7 girls who turned up in such amazing numbers for the cricket training, we were invited to attend a bonus tournament to give everyone a chance to play.
