Pupils and staff are celebrating after being awarded a Premier League Primary Stars kit and equipment pack.
The pack contains 15 brand new Nike football kits, which will be used by the year 5 and 6 boys and girls football teams. Online Maths, English and PSHE resources have also been provided which will inspire children and allow them to develop vital skills needed in and out of school.
The Kit and Equipment Scheme forms part of the Premier League Primary Stars offer to primary schools in England and Wales. This is a curriculum-linked education programme that uses the appeal of the Premier League and its clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.
Delivered by the Football Foundation, the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme gives teachers a range of equipment that can be used across different curriculum areas to get children active.
Also available is a free downloadable suite of resources for teachers across Key Stages 1 and 2 in English, Maths, PE and PSHE. The easy-to-use materials have been developed in partnership with education organisations including the National Literacy Trust and the PSHE Association.
Mathematician Rachel Riley and children’s authors Cressida Cowell and Dan Freedman also helped to create the teaching packs, which use real life sport examples to put lessons into a relevant and engaging context for children.
Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of the Premier League and Football Foundation Trustee, said: “Congratulations to Newminster Middle School on their successful application for a Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment pack. We hope this kit, coupled with the free downloadable online resources, will help teachers harness the popularity of football to inspire primary school kids in everything from Maths and English to teamwork and sport.”
Mr Dick, PE Subject Leader, said: “The kit will be so beneficial to all our KS2 teams so they look the part in their many fixtures throughout this season and many more after. The equipment pack and online resources have already been used to great effect. Many thanks to the Premier League for gifting the kit and equipment pack.”

The pupils from Chantry and Newminster Middle Schools were invited to participate in a Heritage Lottery funded drama based on a new book written for children by Bridget Gubbins called ‘The Conquest of Morpeth’. They have been attending drama club on Tuesdays after school and working really hard this term. Students have examined different drama techniques including: freeze frames, script writing, prop making, costume design, movement, music and shadow puppetry.
They staged a performance of their own self-devised work based on ‘The Conquest of Morpeth’ on Thursday 23rd November 2017 in the Chantry Middle School Hall. It was extremely well received by the packed out audience which included the author, illustrator and Mrs Patricia Murray, consort of the Civic Head of Northumberland County Council.
Signed versions of the children’s book, ‘The Conquest of Morpeth’ by Bridget Gubbins, were on sale at the event.
Quote from Bridget Gubbins – I was overwhelmed by the magnificent interpretation of the stories in the book. From the terrifying devil masks to the unhappy Juliana obliged to marry Ranulph de Merlay. From the battle scenes to the poor village girl who had to work at the castle. The children made these stories about Morpeth’s history all their own. As a writer and researcher, seeing the stories being brought alive by these youngsters makes all the work worthwhile.”
With colourful illustrations by local artist Susan Dibben, the book is available for sale in Morpeth bookshops, just in time for Christmas, and costs only £5.
The Morpeth Electric Bicycle Company opened it’s doors earlier this month and the showroom will be officially opened by the Mayor of Morpeth on Saturday 9 December.
On November 9th, Year 5 children were treated to an energetic and entertaining performance from Guy Bass, award-winning author of the Spynosaur, Stitch Head and Dinkin Dings series.
Guy explained that his books reflect the way he pictured the world as he was growing up and confessed that he created the Spynosaur series to indulge his childhood ambition to be a dinosaur!
Guy drew upon his background in the theatre to debunk some of the white lies we tell our children – carrots help you see in the dark; spiders are more afraid of you than you are of them; the ice cream van plays its jingle when it has run out of ice cream – and reduced the audience to helpless laughter with his portrayal of an aggressive spider!
Aided by a member of the audience dressed as Spynosaur, he rounded off his performance with a lively reading from his latest novel, Goldenclaw and took time to have a proper conversation with every child that had bought one of his books.
We all enjoyed this event enormously and the clips will give you a flavour.
On Tuesday 14th November, all Year 7 students took part in an Energy Quest workshop ‘The Energiser Event’.
The STEM workshop included hands-on activities, careers information and stories from real engineers working in energy.
Concepts of energy generation, sustainability and technologies were explored and pupils were left with exciting ideas to explore.
