Frankie Fundraiser

19th January 2016L Dickinson

IMG_2378Last week many of our children took part in a fundraising event to help raise money for Frankie Sherwood, a 2 year old boy who suffers with cancer. Frankie is the mascot for Newcastle United Ladies Team.

Players from Newcastle United Ladies Team spent the morning playing football with groups of children from both Chantry and Newminster. Frankie joined in with various groups and enjoyed a kick around with players and children. Many of our children and the adults involved said how much they’d enjoyed the session and being able to meet Frankie. Voluntary donations were very generous and will be put to good use.

Newcastle United players and development manager were very impressed with the attitudes of all children and their level of skill.

Poppy Pritchard (Year 5) was spotted by Newcastle’s development manager and will be asked to attend Newcastle academy. Well done Poppy! A fantastic achievement.

Well done to all children who participated and a very big Thank you to NUWFC for a brilliant morning.

Read more about Frankie here.

New year, new aspirations!

7th January 2016L Dickinson

unnamed (1)Even with a wet and blustery start to term, Key stage 2 pupils responded enthusiastically to their core value of the week, ‘Aspirations’, during assembly. Karun aptly described aspirations as ‘Reaching for the Stars’.

Pupils then shared some fantastic ideas about how to get there, including ‘work hard’, ‘set goals and think of ways to get there’,  ‘be confident and think positively’ and ‘start small and grow bigger’.

Other suggestions were ‘believe in yourself’ and ‘find different ways to achieve your goal as there isn’t just one way’. What a really positive start and good luck for the New Year.

STEM Day: Help needed

7th January 2016L Dickinson

pasted image 0Dear Parents and friends of the school,

We are kick starting British Science Week on Friday 11th March 2016. The purpose of the day is to raise the profile of STEM subjects.   Every student in the school benefits from STEM enrichment activities which are often supported by parents and other external organisations. Whilst we already have several bookings in place, we still require support.

If you feel that you can deliver a session to help support the day please contact Mrs Razzaqi via sumeena.razzaqi@newminster.the3rivers.net for further information.

Year 7 & 8 Health & Wellbeing Day

1st December 2015L Dickinson

Pupils in Year 7 and 8 got up and active in our first ‘Health and Wellbeing ‘day. They enjoyed a series of workshops investigating how they can stay healthy and happy. A team of professionals, including Olympic volleyball players, Nutritionists from the Life Factory, an Afromix dancer from Dance City and a professional drummer led a varied programme including street dance, healthy breakfasts, Samba playing and team volley ball games. Pupils also looked into peer massage and the effects of smoking and alcohol.

During the day, students gathered ideas and facts about the positive or negative effects on their social, emotional and physical health. They worked on this at the end to produce a fantastic range of posters, booklets and mind maps.

Well done and a big thank you to everyone involved in the day.
