The pupils of Newminster and Chantry Middle Schools took part in the Sign2Sing event today. They signed and sang the song ‘Reach Out Your Hand’ which was filmed, along with singing other songs and taking part in activities which have taught the children a new and valuable skill as well as raising awareness of Deaf issues .
The event was done as two whole schools (over 1000 children and all staff) and took place in the Chantry School hall.
SignHealth, which is a national charity, dedicated to improving the health and well being of deaf people, are behind the event.
Thank you all for your kind donations and well done for your excellent efforts.

Sign2Sing 2016 is happening tomorrow (Tuesday 2 February)!
Last week many of our children took part in a fundraising event to help raise money for Frankie Sherwood, a 2 year old boy who suffers with cancer. Frankie is the mascot for Newcastle United Ladies Team.
Chantry & Newminster and King Edward VI School Ceilidh Bands present an evening of folk music for dancing and listening. Our local Irish dancing group will also be performing.
Even with a wet and blustery start to term, Key stage 2 pupils responded enthusiastically to their core value of the week, ‘Aspirations’, during assembly. Karun aptly described aspirations as ‘Reaching for the Stars’.
