17th March 2015Mrs K Shutler

IMG_8789Last week, we took on the challenge of an open air dance to raise money for Comic Relief.

Thankfully the weather was in our favour and 525 students and over 40 staff took part in the performance on the school yard – dancing to Shakira’s ‘It’s Time For Africa’.

Check out the photo gallery.

Celebrating World Book Day

11th March 2015Mrs K Shutler

IMG_2228We collected a superb £278.06 to support the work of Book Aid International in getting books to children in parts of the world that have none. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity.

Students were invited to celebrate World Book Day by dressing up as a character from a book. There were so many excellent costumes, it was quite difficult to choose the winners. In the end, a record seventeen students each won a novel and all the rest earned five class points each!

IMG_2226Mr Stink and his dog (alias Dominic Marshall) and The Iron Man (James Mullen, we believe) each won an additional book prize of their choice for the most effort put into a costume. Well done boys!

Enormous thanks to Aimee Reid and Bethany Matthews in Year 6 for patiently naming every one of 1,015 World Book Day tokens so everyone in each school could be sure of getting one. You are heroines, girls!

Book Fair

9th March 2015Mrs K Shutler

IMG_2218 Thanks to your tremendous support and generosity, our annual Book Fair was a record breaking success:

  • 30% more children used their World Book Day £1 discount vouchers when buying books
  • orders were up by 77%
  • book sales exceeded sales of stationery
  • and the magnificent total of £1,873.56 is our highest yet!

This year, Fair takings have raised £1,124 in commission, which will be spent, as usual, on books to stimulate literacy and a love of reading throughout school.
