Year 7 students from Chantry and Newminster Middle Schools recently presented their Science investigation work to parents, friends and visiting judges.

The students have been working towards the British Science Association’s Bronze CREST Award over the last few months. This has involved them planning an investigation, carrying out experiments, collecting results and making sense of them. The students are also encouraged to present their investigation work to the wider community, which helps to sharpen their scientific communication skills.

Colin Wilkinson, owner of Teesside-based Corylus Learning and lead judge, commended all of the students for their hard work. Newminster students Joe, Dominic, Ciaran, Finn, Theo and Charlie received a special award for the quality of their project investigating the impact of natural disasters.

All the students’ projects will be entered into the regional heats of the National Science and Engineering Competition, which will be held at Northumbria University at the end of June.
