29.1 – Y7 and Y8 Indoor Athletics County Finals at Morpeth Leisure Centre
Another fantastic event in which 3 out of a possible 4 Newminster teams had qualified to represent the Area at this stage. All athletes gave their all in a range of Indoor Athletics disciplines and many personal achievements were met and exceeded. However, as always these events are team based and when all the individual points were added together the team positions were as follows: Y8 Boys – 4th; Y8 Girls – 2nd (only 2 points behind 1st place); Y7 boys – 1st, and now hold the title of County Champions! Well done to all competitors, you did our school proud!

28.1 – Y7 and Y8 Boys’ rugby event at Bullocksteads
The Year 7 and Year 8 teams headed to Bullocksteads for an RFU tournament.
The teams involved a lot of players who often wouldn’t get a chance to compete normally and it was great to see the depth of talent we have at school.
Although it was cold and windy all the boys enjoyed their time and each team was able to win some games. All teams developed together as units over the afternoon and from my point of view that was the most important thing. I look forward to seeing lots of these boys who had an opportunity today come down to training more often and hopefully gain some more experience and get some more game time.
28.1 – U12s A and B team football v Cramlington Learning Village
Great effort from our boys in these horrendous conditions. The A team game was fast flowing and end to end for large parts with some great moves from both teams. The difference between the teams came from Cramlington’s pacey striker who made 2 and scored 1 fantastic goal. Our lads fought back with great determination and scored a well deserved break away goal (Joe Buxton, assisted by James Allan). However they couldn’t add to this and the game ended 3-1.
This was the first of 3 games in a mini-league tournament. The next 2 will be played on 10 March, good luck to the boys!
On came the B-team, who after having had to stand and watch the A-team in freezing windswept conditions, played in another great game. The match was very evenly poised from start to finish and was only decided by the 1 goal from Cramlington. However, the lads played arguably their best football of the season, which is great testament to their attitude, despite the score-line and the weather!
27.1 – Y8 Boys’ basketball tournament at Ponteland Middle
Another Sports Partnership event saw some brilliant basketball between us, Chantry, Ponteland and Coates. After Narrow defeats to Ponteland and Coates the tournament was set for the ‘Bronze Medal Match’ against Chantry. With both teams playing some great counter-attacking basketball, the difference was made by our clinical finishing and great defensive rebounds. Final score;10-0 victory. Well done boys!

Fantastic performances from our U11s teams who took part in a mini tournament against 2 from Chantry. They played with fantastic attitude and ability and deservedly won all of their games. This is great preparation for the re-start of their league campaign on March 8.
