12.11 – U11s girls footy at Hirst Welfare

A great event for students to be involved in despite the bad weather on the day. Y8 sports leaders were a great help and everyone involved had a fantastic attitude in the circumstances!

13.11 – Y5 Basketball tournament at Chantry

Well done to our 2 Y5 teams who took part with great enthusiasm and ability. In a competition between our 2 teams and 2 from Richard Coates our teams finished 3rd and 1st. Our winning team will now play ahead of the Newcastle Eagles game on Friday 27th.

16.11 – Y6 Boys football tournament at Hirst Welfare

Our boys played magnificently in this hard fought tournament. After finishing top of their group they qualified for a semi against Horton Grange. They had to fight back from 2-0 down to take the game to extra-time and then went on to score the vital winner to book their place in an all Morpeth Final against Chantry.

The game was a great spectacle with 2 fantastic goals from Josh Grenfell and James McConnell. However Chantry fought back and scored to put the pressure on in the final 5 minutes. Some spectacular saves from Dan McConnell prevented further goals and meant Newminster lifted the trophy.

17.11 – House Cross Country

Well done to all our pupils who took part in the first House event of the year, the House Cross Country Championships. After all the points were counted the scores were as follows:
Collingwood 19, Dacre 26, Howard 21 and Mitford 15.
Also special mention to individual winners: Dylan Walker, Molly Waddington, Tom Wales, Orla Callaghan, Ben Walker, Fay Smith, Tommy Cunningham (4 times winner!) and Lily Heaton.

19.11 – Y7 National Football B-team Cup

Our B-team booked their place in the next round of the Cup with a fantastic 5-3 win over Ponteland. The game was one of the most end-to-end matches either manager had witnessed. A great team performance and special mention to goal scorers Lucas Heslop (2), Max Milburn, Ollie Smith and Fergus Barclay.

20.11 – Y6, 7 and 8 Sportshall Athletics

Great performances from our athletes in this indoor athletics event against Chantry, Ponteland and Coates. The morning saw many great individual and team wins for the Y6s but were just pipped into 2nd place by Ponteland.

In the afternoon the KS3 pupils continued with the same determination and ability and recorded the following results:
Y7 boys – 1st, Y7 girls – 3rd, Y8 boys – 2nd, Y8 girls – 1st. The Y7 boys and Y8 girls will now represent our area in the regional finals next year. Well done to all!

23.11 – Y8 girls rugby festival

In horrendous weather our girls still played with tremendous determination and showed great signs of improvement as the tournament went on. I think they’d definitely give the boys rugby team a hard game! Its great that in such poor weather we’ve got over 20 Y8 girls who want to represent our school on the rugby field with such a positive attitude. Y8 sports leaders were a great help and had a positive attitude despite the weather.

24.11- Y6 County Cup v Ovingham

Another great footballing event in which the teams traded goals in the early part until in the second half Newminster moved up a gear to record an emphatic 7-2 win. Goals from: James McConnell (4), Josh Grenfell (2) and a first goal for 1st team debutant Orla Callaghan. Well done!

25.11 – Y8 Leaders at Y3 Sports Festival

Our Y8 team once again demonstrated their fantastic leadership skills helping to run a multiskills festival at Morpeth Leisure Centre. Well done!

26.11 – House matches

All our pupils took part in round 2 of the House Championships this year of Rugby and Dodgeball. The events went fantastically well with many participants enjoying an early experience of contact rugby. After this and the cross country the scores on the doors now are:
Collingwood 48, Dacre 61, Howard 51 and Mitford 47. For the second year in a row Dacre are storming into an early lead with all 3 other houses very close on points. Next term will see the next round of competitions of football, netball and benchball.

27.11 – Y5 Boys and Y5/6 Girls football tournament at Chantry

It was extremely pleasing to see so many of our pupils involved in this tournament. We had over 50 pupils attending in 6 teams, giving many pupils their 1st opportunity to represent the school.

Our boys teams battled well and earned some decent performances including a very feisty encounter between our 3rd and 4th team! Well done to our Girls 1st team who outdid their male counterparts and booked another place at the Summer Games with a 100% win record including a resounding 4-0 win over Chantry in the final, all goals from Lucy McConnell.

27.11 – Y5 Basketball tournament at Sports Central

Well done to our Y5 basketball team who played in the Regional Finals event at the home of the Newcastle Eagles. They performed with great determination and definitely improved their team play as the tournament went on. This was then followed by the players and fellow pupils watching the experts at work in which the eagles recorded a superb 108-85 victory.

30.11 – Y5/6 tag rugby tournament at Chantry

Well done to all players who took part in fantastic (muddy!) rugby conditions. Team 1 won the event and will now represent the Area in the Summer Games in June. Team 2 were 3rd in their pool and team 3 were 2nd.
