All Y8 pupils took part in activities linked to Remembrance Day.
They made proggy poppy wreaths with Mrs Rough, which were then laid during the assembly.
They also sang WW1 songs with Mrs Jones; made their own “trench art” with Mrs Woolley; had some hands on experience with WW1 artefacts from Newcastle University.
And were given the opportunity to do some code breaking and cipher work with Tom Briggs from Bletchley Park, who brought in an original WW2 Enigma machine.
You can see this very same machine being used by Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley in the new film “The Imitation Game” about the life of wartime mathematician Alan Turing!
