20th October Y7/8 Football
7/8 girls and Y7 boys football School Sports Partnership event at Chantry. Well done to all our participants in this event. They played with great commitment and ability in all of their games. Special mention to our boys B-team who received compliments from other school staff on their team play and attitude, and the girls team who recorded 3 wins and a draw which saw them top the league and will now represent the area in the Summer Games in June. Well done to our U11s B and C teams on the second night of their on-going league. The B team kept their 100% win record going and the C team recorded a win and a loss.
U11s Football
After 2 very difficult open league games of the season the team is now taking shape and playing some fantastic football, which they demonstrated to great effect in their 9-1 County Cup win over Tweedmouth. The boys certainly enjoyed the experience (especially the bus ride there and back!). They have now also recorded their first win in the league with a 4-2 victory over Central. Well done to hat-trick hero Josh Grenfell and Tom Wales with the other.
It was also fantastic to watch the Open Evening A v B match in which both teams played very well with great entertainment for the watching crowd.
The B and C teams have also been in action in their on-going league fixtures this season and started with a couple of great wins in the first session. More results to follow.
U12s Football
Both our U12s teams have now started their seasons with performances in the National Cup. Our B-team were first off the mark with a battling 2-1 win over Valley Gardens after extra time. The team played some quality football at times and special mention to goal scorers Max Milburn and Ben Loknes and Man of the Match, Tom Holden.
The A-team recently took the ‘artificial’ field at Ponteland and definitely deserved more from their 3-1 defeat. Every member of the squad played with fantastic attitude and determination throughout the entire game, in which they dominated the second half in particular. The performance was epitomized by goal scorer and Man of the Match Joe Buxton.. Lets not mention the controversial refereeing decisions! 😀
U13s Football: Newminster v Chantry
On the back of a disappointing result against Ponteland, Newminster under 13s didn’t have far to travel as they faced rivals Chantry during then open evenings for the two middle schools.
The game was played with a fantastic amount of respect and class by the Newminster boys, creating chances fluently as well as defending any potential threat from Chantry with intelligence and apparent ease.
By half time, the boys were 4-1 up, with well worked goals from Josh and Angus, a Fergus belter from 30 yards, and an immensely composed, creative finish by Joe. The second half was played with the same positive attitude that defined the first half, allowing Newminster to score twice more, another from Josh and a tidy finish from Ben, to secure all 3 points.
Final score; Chantry 2, Newminster 6.
Man of the match: Joe Buxton
Well done boys!
KS3 Girls Football
The KS3 girls football team have had a fantastic start to the season, winning both of the games they have played so far. Both scorelines being 9-0!! We have 2 girls really step up to the mark so far too, Orla Callaghan and Lucy McConnell who are both still only in Year 6, Lucy slotted in 6 of the goals in our last game against NCEA. Brilliant start girls, keep up the hard work!
Y8 Sports Leaders
Y5/6/7 Cross Country event at Gateshead Stadium (1.10.15)
Well done to all our competitors in this inaugural event on a scorching hot day. 6 boys and 6 girls from each of these 3 years took part and ran with fantastic determination despite the temperature.
Special mention goes to: Y6 top 10 finishers, Orla Callaghan (5) and Matty Walton (7) ;and the Y7 boys team of Ben Walker (3), Joe Buxton (4), Dylan Gooding (7), Aidan McInally (10), Ben Loknes (15) and Charlie Lane (18) who were the best Y7 boys team on the day. To put this into perspective there were 32 competing schools and about 200 runners in each race.
World Marathon challenge (7.10.15)
Once again we took a team from Y8 to compete in this World-wide event in which participants from Newminster, Chantry and KEVI relay raced around KEVI track until the team had completed a marathon distance. The idea was to attempt to get close to the men’s Marathon World Record time (2:02:57).
All participants took part with immense determination in poor weather conditions and I’m very proud to announce the teams completed the event in times of 2:04:14 and 2:08:39 which once again gives them the best times in the North East and respectively 9th and 15th in the world. Awesome!
