Don’t forget that it’s World Book Day on Thursday March 3rd and Newminster will be having a non-uniform day to raise funds for Book Aid International.
Remember it’s a Thursday not a Friday!
We’re inviting everyone to mark this special day by dressing up as a character from literature. Children whose outfits display the most ingenuity and originality will be eligible to choose a book prize from the Fair!
Children can dress up – and possibly win a prize – or dress down to suit their own personality. Either way, please remind them to bring a contribution to help send books to children in areas of the world which have none. Children can’t learn to read without access to books!
You might be interested to know that publishers donate the books free of charge but it costs £2 to get each book to where it’s needed.
Books travel first by ship and air then complete their final journeys by whatever means are available – truck, motorbike, camel…. and even on carts pulled by bullocks!
However they get to their destinations, they are hugely valued and appreciated so, in advance, “Thank you!”.
