Year 7 & 8 Health & Wellbeing Day

1st December 2015L Dickinson

Pupils in Year 7 and 8 got up and active in our first ‘Health and Wellbeing ‘day. They enjoyed a series of workshops investigating how they can stay healthy and happy. A team of professionals, including Olympic volleyball players, Nutritionists from the Life Factory, an Afromix dancer from Dance City and a professional drummer led a varied programme including street dance, healthy breakfasts, Samba playing and team volley ball games. Pupils also looked into peer massage and the effects of smoking and alcohol.

During the day, students gathered ideas and facts about the positive or negative effects on their social, emotional and physical health. They worked on this at the end to produce a fantastic range of posters, booklets and mind maps.

Well done and a big thank you to everyone involved in the day.

North Of Tyne Champion Schools Rugby League Tournament

17th November 2015L Dickinson

On Tuesday the 10th November Newminster headed to their first North Of Tyne Champion Schools Rugby League Tournament.

The boys were in high spirits off the back of a good performance in the Rugby League Sky Try Tournament held at Kingston Park the previous month.

However, having entered the competition in the second round we had some fixtures to make up. On a windy day the boys played seven, twelve minute games of Rugby League. Battling through the conditions and some tough opposition to finish with 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. The most pleasing thing from my point of view with the enjoyment the boys seems to get from the tournament and the improvements they made in their performances. As most of the boys have never played the game before this year, this was the most pleasing aspect of the day.

We can now look forward to another tournament closer to Christmas.

Well done boys. Mr Twentyman

Great North Air Ambulance

16th November 2015L Dickinson

DSCF0137 (Large)Well done to both Chantry and Newminster Middle Schools who donated £2000 to the Great North Air Ambulance after a very successful fun run earlier in the term.

The charity was chosen after the Mayor of Morpeth, Alison Byard, visited the schools to talk to the children about her work as Mayor and why she had chosen this charity for her year in office. She has aimed to raise £5000 so she is two fifths there! Rose Akenclose & Patricia Ford from the GNAA accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity and thanked the students for their amazing hard work.

Please visit www.greatnorthairambulance.co.uk for further information about the charity.
