The Three Rivers Ceilidh

20th March 2023Sarah Hall
Pupils from Newminster, Chantry and Dr Thomlinson Middle Schools joined the King Edward VI Ceilidh Band to play for an event on Saturday 18th March 2023 at KEVI. The Cheviot Ceilidh was well attended by the local community who danced to music played by the band with Elaine Carter calling the dances.
Prior to the event, the pupils in the joint ceilidh band enjoyed a workshop with local folk musician, Alistair Anderson, on Tuesday 7th March.
“It was lovely to see the Morpeth community come together to enjoy a night of folk music and dancing. Young and old were on the dance floor with smiling faces!”

The Mid Northumberland Chorus are putting on a fantastic concert at St James Church, Morpeth on Sunday 26 March 2023, starting at 7.30pm which has a wonderful mix of mainly Italian and Norwegian music! Please come along, it will be a great night!

The programme includes the hugely varied and dramatic Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus RV595 accompanied by a professional string orchestra and featuring two fabulous soloists: Jane Burnell (Soprano) and Sophie Clarke (Mezzo-Soprano). In the second half we will be performing: ‘The Rose’ and ‘The Ground’ by Ola Gjeilo, the string orchestra will be performing Two Movements from the Peer Gynt Suite and there will be four solo Grieg songs sung by Jane and Sophie. Year 8 Ancestral Research-Remembrance Project

21st November 2022Andrew Baxter
We all remember, together and alone. From a single name etched on a wall to a national ceremony and the unifying silence of quiet contemplation, Remembrance has many voices.

In English lessons, pupils have been studying the World War 1 play, ‘Journey’s End’ by RC Sheriff, a powerful and moving play. It follows a group of British soldiers on the front line, in the days leading up to the German Spring Offensive, in March 1918, during which thousands of lives were lost.

Pupils were asked to complete ancestral research. Travelling back through time, they have  uncovered stories about the contributions their own families made in conflicts from World War 1 onwards.

On Thursday 10th November, pupils paid their respects to their Ancestors, to remember their Service, celebrate their Courage and give thanks for their Sacrifice. They presented 74 crosses to honour their Ancestors, this was a moving moment watched by many families.

Click the links below to listen to our pupils share some incredible stories.
